As Global Persecution Intensifies Survivors and Advocates Seek Solutions: 'I'm Shocked the World Is Just Sitting by Watching'
July 20, 2021
Across the globe, persecution against Christians and other people of faith is growing. In fact, 80 percent of people live in countries where religious activity is restricted by their governments.
Religious minorities are often blamed for the pandemic. Sexual violence has been increasingly used as a tool to get women to convert, and so-called "polite persecution" puts limits on how religious people live their faith.
"Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world," explains Tristan Azbej, Hungarian State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians.
In the four years Azbej has managed the Hungary Helps Program, the nation has supported 250,000 persecuted Christians in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia; helped reconstruct 67 churches in Lebanon; and rebuilt the Christian town of Telskuf in Iraq after it was decimated by ISIS.
At Least 45 Christian Churches Set on Fire In Canada as Attacks Escalate
July 20, 2021
An apparent ongoing anti-Christian campaign in Canada has resulted in a total of 45 churches being attacked with some of the buildings being burned to the ground. The crimes stem from far-left terrorists with a Marxist ideology whose sole purpose is to strike fear in Canadians for practicing their faith.
The church fires were reported across Canada following the recent discoveries of unmarked graves on the sites of former boarding schools for Indigenous children, many of which were run by churches. The remains of nearly 1,000 bodies have been found so far, most of them Indigenous children.
ISRAEL PREPARES A FINAL ASSAULT ON IRAN
July 20, 2021
For years there was an assumption that Israel would have to take up arms against the Iranian menace and now it has reached the time where it must act. With the Iranian menace not backing down and the noose tightening around Israel, planning has gone into fever pitch over dealing with Hezbollah to the North and Iranian forward bases in Syria. With or without a nuclear weapon, the Ayatollahs have enough weaponry int those two places to cause Israel serious damage.

Some of the worshipers chanted calls against Israel, adding, "We will sacrifice our lives for the sake of Al Aqsa."
In addition signs were hung near the mosques, expressing support for the Hamas terror organization, with the words, "We are the men of Mohammed Deif," and "The sword of Jerusalem will free the prisoners."

3,462 Nigerian Christians killed by herdsmen, Jihadists in 200 days
July 18, 2021
The number of defenceless Christians hacked to death by Nigeria’s Islamic Jihadists and their collaborators in the security forces in the past 200 days or 1st January to 18th July 2021 has risen to no fewer than 3, 462 and this is just sixty-eight deaths less than the total deaths of Nigerian Christians in 2020 which the Open Doors’ World Watch List of Persecuted Christians put at ‘3,530’.
This number further represents daily average Christian deaths of seventeen and second highest since 2014 when over 5000 Christian deaths were recorded in the hands of Boko Haram and Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen.
The number of Churches threatened or attacked and closed or destroyed or burnt since January 2021 is also estimated to be around 300 with at least ten priests or pastors abducted or killed by the jihadists. Taraba State was discovered to be the most affected with at least seventy churches threatened or attacked and closed or burnt or destroyed.

Massacres, starvation and wanton destruction: The truth about Tigray in Ethiopia
Despite a communications blackout imposed by the Ethiopian government, imposed at the beginning of the conflict and ongoing restrictions, reports continue to emerge of horrific crimes perpetrated largely by Eritrean soldiers. These crimes include brutal acts of sexual and gender-based violence, indiscriminate bombing, extrajudicial killings, and looting of homes, businesses and historical and religious sites. The fundamentally sadistic nature is on open display in Tigray.
The December killing of around 700 people at the Maryam Zion Church in Axum, which is believed to house the biblical Ark of the Covenant, brought the crisis into sharp focus. Many were dragged from the church and murdered in the streets. Survivors were not allowed to bury the corpses until hyenas had descended on the town to consume them.
Clergy and worshippers have died in their hundreds during attacks on churches and monasteries. These attacks appear to be timed to coincide with religious festivals, possibly to inflict maximum casualties. According to a Tigrayan official: ‘They kill whomever they find in whichever village they get in. In the village I was in yesterday – it’s a small village – they killed 21 people, out of which seven of them were priests.’
‘They are raping our women – including nuns in convents - they have pillaged our towns, they have ransacked and shelled our churches and mosques, and whoever is left, is just waiting to starve to death.’ So far an estimated 10,000 women and girls, ranging from an eight-year-old to grandmothers aged 72, have been raped.
Report: Iranian IRGC commander urged Iraqi militias to attack US targets
A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander urged Iraqi Shiite militias to step up attacks on US targets during a meeting in Baghdad.
July 14, 2021
A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander urged Iraqi Shiite militias to step up attacks on US targets during a meeting in Baghdad last week, three militia sources and two Iraqi security sources familiar with the gathering told Reuters on Tuesday.
American forces in Iraq and Syria were attacked several times following the visit by an Iranian delegation led by Revolutionary Guards. A senior official in the region, who was briefed by Iranian authorities that Taeb met several Iraqi militia leaders during the trip and conveyed “the Supreme Leader’s message to them about keeping up pressure on US forces in Iraq until they leave the region”.

A new round of brazen rocket attacks were launched against US forces in Eastern Syria and Iraq. Iran-backed militias in the region are being blamed for the attacks, which have seen an uptick in recent times. Meanwhile, the Islamic State insurgency may be poised to make a comeback. Is the US on the verge of being pushed out of Iraq?

First Christians sentenced to prison under new law in Iran
Iran’s newly amended penal code, which states that “any deviant education or propaganda that contradicts or interferes with the sacred Sharia [Islamic law] will be severely punished”.
09 JULY 2021
The first Christians to be punished under a newly amended law in Iran aimed at halting the growth of Christianity and other religious groups were sentenced to five years in prison for spreading “propaganda” against Islam after they refused to renounce Christ, sources said.
Amin Khaki, Milad Goudarzi and Alireza Nourmohammadi, all converts from Islam, were sentenced under Article 500 of Iran’s newly amended penal code, which states that “any deviant education or propaganda that contradicts or interferes with the sacred Sharia [Islamic law] will be severely punished.”
The recent election of Ebrahim Raisi, chief justice of Iran, to the presidency, “would appear to indicate that Iran will continue to follow a hard line when it comes to upholding Islamic values,” the analyst said. “His history suggests that we should not expect to see moderation or toleration shown to anyone who ‘deviates’ from Islamic revolutionary aims, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Christian converts will be a primary focus for correction.
Members of the Church of Iran, the three men were informed on June 26 that they had each been given the maximum prison sentences.

Every minute, 11 people die of hunger: Oxfam
About 155 million people around the world live at crisis levels of food insecurity, 20 million more than last year, a new report says.
9 Jul 2021
Eleven people die every minute of hunger, according to a new report by Oxfam, which also found the number of those facing famine-like conditions globally has increased by six times over the past year.
Published on Friday, “The Hunger Virus Multiplies” report (PDF) said the death toll from famine outpaces that of COVID-19, which kills about seven people per minute.
“The statistics are staggering, but we must remember that these figures are made up of individual people facing unimaginable suffering. Even one person is too many,” said Abby Maxman, Oxfam America’s president and chief executive officer.
According to the charity, 155 million people around the world now live at crisis levels of food insecurity or worse – some 20 million more than last year. About two-thirds of them face hunger because their country is in military conflict.
As of mid-June, the number of people falling into the most acute phase of the famine stood at 521,814 across Ethiopia, Madagascar, South Sudan and Yemen – up from 84,500 last year, an increase of more than 500 percent, according to the global report on Food Crises 2021

Keeping up attacks, some Iraq militias challenge patron Iran
July 10, 2021
BAGHDAD: Iran’s expeditionary Quds Force commander brought one main directive for Iraqi militia faction leaders long beholden to Tehran, when he gathered with them in Baghdad last month: Maintain calm, until after nuclear talks between Iran and the United States.
But he was met with defiance. One of the six faction leaders spoke up in their meeting: They could not stay quiet while the death of his predecessor Qassim Soleimani and senior Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis in a US drone strike went unavenged.
Militia attacks have only been increasing against the US in military bases in both Iraq and Syria. Three missile attacks in the last week alone resulted in minor injuries, stoking fears of escalation.
Increasing rocket and drone attacks targeting American troops in Iraq and Syria have alarmed Western and coalition officials. There have been at least eight drone attacks targeting the US presence since Biden took office in January, as well as 17 rocket attacks, according to coalition officials.
The attacks are blamed on the Iranian-backed militias that make up the bulk of Iraq’s state-supported Popular Mobilization Forces. The Biden administration has responded by twice targeting Iraqi militia groups operating inside Syria, including close to the Iraqi border.
AS NUCLEAR TALKS STALL, ATTACKS ON US FORCES IN IRAQ INCREASE
July 8, 2021
With the talks beginning to lag, Iranian proxies in Iraq – especially the Shiite militias, have begin to increase their attacks with rockets and drones against US forces. America has responded, but any hopes of crushing the Iranian backed Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) is fantasy.
The Iranians want to force the US our like the Vietcong did when the world saw the US army abandon Saigon. The Mullah’s want to turn Baghdad into Saigon 2.0. By prolonging the negotiations and waging war at the same time, the Iranian leadership is hoping to weaken the American resolve to continue and instead the Biden administration will simply order a major pullback – similar to Afghanistan.

Xi Jinping Is Mobilizing China for War, Possibly With Nukes
July 8, 2021
Beijing looks as if it is preparing for a full-scale invasion of Indian territory.... Ladakh is not the only hotspot. There is a Chinese encroachment in India's Sikkim as well as incursions in neighboring Bhutan and Nepal.
Lately, Xi's references in public pronouncements have become unmistakable, and his subordinates have been clear that Xi believes that everyone outside China owes him obedience.
Xi, while spouting tianxia-like language and bellicose words, has been getting the Chinese people ready for war.
The changes signal the growing clout of the People's Army inside the Party and highlight the militarization of the country's external relations. China is fast becoming a military state.
Xi Jinping on July 1 told the world what he is going to do. We are, in all probability, in the last moments of peace.

ISRAEL DECLARES: “IRAN CHOSE WAR,” BUT DOES ANYBODY CARE? (Video)
July 4, 2021
Israel has kept up its international pressure on Iran, warning that it plans on defending itself against Iranian aggression whether or not the US signs a nuclear accord with the Mullahs in Tehran.
The fact is, the Iranians have for years relied on the West’s decline in order to push forward towards nuclear breakout and hegemony. The world’s insatiable need for cheap energy means that Iran is indispensable as an energy exporter. China itself needs inexpensive Iranian oil and gas to fuel its economy.
The coming confrontation with Iran is building up within a broader context of a rising China, aggressive Russia, and most importantly a declining USA, apparently content at pulling back from world leadership as it culturally dismantles itself. (Start at - 04:33 -)

Methodists agree to same-sex weddings in church

Conference also voted strongly to celebrate commitment of unmarried cohabiting couples
THE Methodist Conference has voted overwhelmingly to permit its ministers to conduct same-sex marriages in its churches and buildings.
The Conference, meeting both online and in-person at the National Conference Centre in Birmingham this week, voted 254 to 46 in favour of a resolution by which “the Conference consents in principle to the marriage of same-sex couples on Methodist premises.
This involved redrafting the Methodist marriage canon to replace the premise that marriage is between one man and one woman. The relevant standing order now states:
“The Methodist Church believes that marriage is given by God to be a particular channel of God’s grace, and that it is in accord with God’s purposes when a marriage is a life-long union in body, mind and spirit of two people who freely enter it.
“Within the Methodist Church this is understood in two ways: that marriage can only be between a man and a woman; that marriage can be between any two people. The Methodist Church affirms both understandings and makes provision in its Standing Orders for them.” READ MORE:

ISRAEL PREPARES TO ATTACK IRAN AFTER HARDLINER BECOMES THE NEW IRANIAN PRESIDENT
June 19, 2021
Israel has already announced that it is drawing up attack plans after Raisi’s win. Known also as the butcher of Tehran, Raisi is said to be responsible for more than 30,000 extrajudicial deaths. The win has come as a shock to Biden’s team, but also confirms that the Ayatollah has no plans of loosening his reign on the country.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesman tweeted the following after Raisi’s win:
“An extremist figure, committed to Iran’s rapidly advancing military nuclear program, his election makes clear Iran’s true malign intentions, and should prompt grave concern among the international community.”
With Raisi’s win, the Biden team will have to rethink its strategy over the nuclear negotiations it was hoping to wrap up in short order. For Israel’s part, it now has for the first time since Biden took power, the ability to convince the administration that it is time to back off of negotiations and take a far more confrontational approach. After all, Jerusalem plans on attacking no matter what. WATCH VIDEO:
Famine hits Ethiopia’s Tigray region, UN humanitarian chief says, with 350,000 reportedly at risk
10 Jun, 2021
Ethiopia’s troubled Tigray region is now in a state of famine, the UN’s humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock has said, as reports suggest that hundreds of thousands of people are at risk of disaster.
“There is now famine in Tigray,” the official told representatives of UN, EU and US organizations on Thursday, warning the situation may be the worst since the 2011 famine in neighboring Somalia, which killed around 260,000 people.
Lowcock said things are “going to get a lot worse”.
Millions more people in the region also need “urgent food and agriculture/livelihoods support to avert further slides towards famine,” the report apparently said.

Iran and the Fourth Gaza War
Iran played a crucial role in instigating the war and the preparations for it by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei incited the Arab masses in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria in the weeks leading up to the war, calling upon Palestinian Arabs to “defend” the al-Aqsa mosque and denouncing Israel as a “terrorist base”.
Iran upped its funding of Hamas during the war and is now paying $30 million per month to Hamas alone. Aside from the money, Iran is giving other forms of aid to Hamas as we will see below.
PIJ receives even more and not only in terms of money. The Iranian proxy receives weapons, training, money, and even food from the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, said PIJ leader Ramez al-Halabi during an interview with al-Ahd TV in Iraq.

Ismail Haniyeh says terror group will continue to battle Jewish state ‘until Al-Aqsa Mosque is liberated,’ amid fresh clashes at Jerusalem Holy Site
21 May 2021
Hamas terror chief Ismail Haniyeh on Friday hailed Hamas’s “victory” in the recent hostilities with Israel. He also thanked Iran for the funds and weaponry it has provided to the Strip.
“We saw our Arab and Islamic nation arose, from east to west, in all its components and factions, behind Jerusalem and Palestine and the resistance,” Haniyeh said.
He also vowed to continue to focus on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount “until Al-Aqsa Mosque is liberated.” Hamas fired rockets at Jerusalem last Monday following a weekend of clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian rioters at the sacred hilltop, sparking Israeli retaliation which led to the war in Gaza.
“Jerusalem is the axis of the struggle… Gaza rose up so as to defend Jerusalem,” Haniyeh said.
Jerusalem – A Cup of Trembling
IDF Military Intelligence knew Hamas would fire on Jerusalem
While neither side wants the fighting to deteriorate into a war with a ground incursion by IDF forces, Hamas has enough rockets to continue firing for at least two months.
MAY 15, 2021
Military Intelligence warned that Hamas would fire rockets on Jerusalem and that the country might find itself at war with the terror group.
A month before Hamas launched its rockets in this latest round of fighting, military intelligence (AMAN) recognized that the narrative on Jerusalem as well as the canceled Palestinian elections had inflamed the Palestinian streets.
AMAN also recognized that the barricades set up by the Israel police at Damascus Gate preventing people from sitting in the plaza and the cry by Hamas military leader Mohammed Dief to come “rescue” Jerusalem only further escalated the tension.

Iran reveals its strategy advising Hamas on war against Israel
What is important here is that the conversation with Ghaani comes as Iranian media published a unique look at Israel’s air defense systems, asserting that Israel is showing new vulnerabilities.
MAY 15, 2021
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force head Esmail Ghaani spoke with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh over the weekend and they discussed the latest developments in the situation and the conflict in Gaza. It comes amid an Iranian regional push to support Hamas, including pro-Iran leader Hadi al-Amiri in Iraq indicating his support for Hamas. Turkey and Iranian-backed Houthis and Hezbollah also support the Hamas war against Israel.
Hamas has conducted unprecedented large volume of rocket fire, up to 135 rockets in five minutes, during this campaign. Hamas is driving the tempo of the war against Israel. Hezbollah is watching. Reports indicate Hezbollah could fire 2,000 rockets a day at Israel in a future war. Iran may have revealed the blueprint Hamas is using.
Hamas, likely with Iranian advice, has increased the speed of their rockets, making them harder to intercept. Hamas launched the war on May 10 on Jerusalem Day. This is clearly a message. Iran had indicated that Israel could be defeated in Quds Day speeches on May 7 and 8. Hamas moved forward on May 10 with the strike aimed at Jerusalem as a symbol of “defending Al-Aqsa.”

The killing of a major part of the former Iraqi government officials, scientists, doctors, ethnic cleansing, many explosions over consecutive years and killing thousands of innocent people are the result of Iran supreme leader Ali Khamenei’s interference and its system in Iraq.

U.S. Condemns Rocket Strikes on Israel as Iran, Turkey, Arabs Rally Around Palestinians
The United States has condemned an ongoing barrage of rocket attacks against Israel as Middle Eastern states rallied in support of Palestinians protesting evictions and security restrictions in the disputed holy city of Jerusalem.
As rockets continued to rain down on Israeli cities and settlements amid a sharp spike in unrest between Israeli security forces and Palestinian protestors. The Israel Defense Forces have broadcast dozens of warnings as their Iron Dome system attempted to intercept a volley of what the IDF estimated to be some 150 rockets claimed by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas and its military wing, Al Qassam Brigades, as well as the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization and its own force, Al-Quds Brigades.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently in the midst of a struggle to form a new governing coalition in Israel, railed against the rocket strikes in remarks coinciding with the national Jerusalem Day holiday on Monday.
"We are in a fight on several fronts: Jerusalem, Gaza and elsewhere in the country," Netanyahu said. "This evening, on Jerusalem Day, the terrorist organizations in Gaza have crossed a red line and attacked us with missiles in the outskirts of Jerusalem."

Rockets strike Iraqi base housing US troops & other coalition forces – Iraqi military

At least two rockets have landed at the Ain al-Asad air base in western Iraq which hosts US and other international forces in the country, the Iraqi military said on Tuesday.
The Ain al-Asad base has been frequently targeted by rockets since the assassination of top Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani in a US drone strike outside Baghdad airport in January 2020.
Washington has blamed the attacks on Shia militias it insists are linked to Iran. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said earlier that the US will respond to those strikes “at a time and place of our own choosing.”

The head of an intensive care unit at a hospital in India described the COVID-19 crisis unfolding in her country as "nothing short of an apocalypse."

As of Friday morning, India had a seven-day average of more than 357,000 new daily infections and over 3,000 daily deaths, according to a New York Times tracker. Public health experts have said that these numbers are likely a significant undercount, as many people are getting infected and dying without ever being tested.

India Tops 200,000 Dead as Virus Surge Breaks Health System
India crossed a grim milestone Wednesday of 200,000 people lost to the coronavirus as a devastating surge of new infections tears through dense cities and rural areas alike and overwhelms health care systems on the brink of collapse.
The health ministry reported a single-day record 3,293 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing India's total fatalities to 201,187, as the world's second most populous country endures its darkest chapter of the pandemic yet.
The country also reported 362,757 new infections, a new global record, which raised the overall total past 17.9 million. The previous high of 350,000 on Monday had capped a five-day streak of recording the largest single-day increases in any country throughout the pandemic.
India, a country of nearly 1.4 billion people, is the fourth to cross 200,000 deaths, behind the United States, Brazil and Mexico. And as in many nations, experts believe the coronavirus infections and fatalities in India are severe undercounts.

Iran: 60% Uranium Enrichment
April 28, 2021
Iran announced that it is now enriching uranium to 60% purity, a dramatic rise from the 20% they announced last year and the 3.67% permitted under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which they began openly violating following the US departure in 2018.
As Iran is now just one small technical step away from weapons-grade nuclear material, it seems obvious that the JCPOA was flawed from the start and failed to stop the mullahs from continuing their nuclear program; something that should have been obvious from their very first violations.
The speed at which the regime could move to 60% enrichment suggests that the regime never actually stopped the program as it should have. After all, they re-installed advanced centrifuges and resumed full activity almost instantaneously. In fact, Atomic Energy Organization head Ali Akbar Salehi said in November 2019 that the regime had effectively tricked the rest of the deal’s signatories into believing that they’d destroyed their centrifuges
“The mullahs spent the financial windfall resulting from lifting the sanctions to arm, train, and finance their proxies in the Middle East, renew their terrorist plots on European soil, advance and expand their ballistic missile program, continue their nuclear program, and suppress the Iranian people. If the past is prologue, no amount of political or economic concessions under any pretext will moderate this regime’s behaviour. Denial, deception, and duplicity are part of its DNA.”

Navy officials told The Wall Street Journal that the Harth 55 – a 180-foot long ship – came as close as 70 yards away from the Monomoy and Wrangell as it repeatedly crossed in front of their bows as they were patrolling international waters.
The incidents at sea almost always involve the Revolutionary Guard, which reports only to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Typically, they involve Iranian speedboats armed with deck-mounted machine guns and rocket launchers test-firing weapons or shadowing American aircraft carriers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf through which 20% of all oil passes.
They also follow a series of incidents across the Mideast attributed to a shadow war between Iran and Israel, which includes attacks on regional shipping and sabotage at Iran's Natanz nuclear facility.
Israel considers possibility of devastating attack by Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq
According to Israel Hayom, the possibility of targeting the Israeli home front by a massive missile attack and widespread offensives: "Has until now a relatively weak presence in public and media analysis." However, during the last two years, the institute placed the threat of a massive missile attack: "At the top of the map of updated menaces to Israel."
This extreme scenario states that there is "an arsenal of weapons that will be directed against us," including: "Missiles and drones from Syria and Lebanon, ballistic rockets and cruise missiles from Iran and Iraq."
The result of this "possible" scenario will be destructive and will lead in certain circumstances "to very high death tolls among the population," while noting that Israel has never experienced an attack with precision missiles on its major cities and strategic sites in the past.
‘A Form of Godliness- No power to say no to homosexuality:
True to its doctrine’: Conservatives plan for a new church after United Methodism splits over homosexuality debate
April 24 2020
The United Methodist Church, the third-largest Christian sect in the United States, took another step toward schism over their longstanding debate on LGBT issues when theological conservatives recently unveiled their plan for a new denomination.
The new denomination, should it formally begin operations, will allow for female ordination and be committed to racial equality, as well as have measures to prevent theological liberals from taking over their leadership.
Adam Hamilton, a United Methodist megachurch pastor known for his support of changing the Book of Discipline's stance on LGBT issues, said in 2019 that he expected as many as 7,500 congregations would leave the denomination due to the debate.
Hamilton reasoned that between 3,400 and 6,800 congregations will exit the UMC to join a new theologically conservative denomination while 300 to 1,000 churches will decide that the UMC is still not inclusive enough.
“So we’ll lose 3,400 to 6,800 on one side and maybe 300 to 1,000 churches on the other side,” said Hamilton in 2019, adding that this estimate was “just a guess.”
Known as the Liberation Methodist Connexion, its creation was announced last December, with the group describing themselves as “a grassroots denomination of former, current, and non-Methodist faith leaders working on the unfolding of the kin-dom of God.”
Iran seeks US ‘withdrawal under fire’ from Iraq
BEHIND THE LINES: Around 20 attacks against US personnel and facilities have been carried out since President Joe Biden’s inauguration in January. But the slow build-up of attacks started earlier.
APRIL 22, 2021
A notable uptick in attacks on US personnel and facilities in Iraq has taken place in recent weeks. In the latest incident on Sunday, five rockets were fired at the Balad Air Base, which hosts US personnel. F16 aircraft are stationed at the base. Two foreign contractors and three Iraqi soldiers were wounded. According to a report by Agence France-Presse, two of the rockets landed in the dormitory and canteen of a US contracting company, Sallyport Global Services. The company provides security, training and utilities at Balad.
The Balad attack followed a drone strike on the airport at Erbil on Wednesday. US troops are stationed at the airport, located in the usually peaceful and stable Kurdish autonomous region. This was the first recorded use of a drone against a US target by the Iran-linked Shia militias in Iraq. A rocket attack in February at the airport killed one Iraqi civilian and a contractor working with US forces.
Iranian Military Chief:
'Laugh now, Zionists - soon you'll be wiped out'
Commander-in-Chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guards says Israel will soon 'disappear at the hands of the Palestinians'.
April 19th, 2021
The commander-in-chief of the Iranian military said Israel would soon “disappear”, while touting Iran’s efforts to bolster the Hezbollah terrorist organization’s “plan to defeat the Zionist regime”.
Major General Hossein Salami, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, addressed mourners at the funeral of Mohammed Hejazi, deputy commander of the Quds Force, Monday morning.
"Together with our Hezbollah brothers, he laid the groundwork for destroying the rotten Zionist regime."
Salami warned Israel not to celebrate Hejazi’s death, saying the Jewish state would soon “disappear”, wiped away by “nation you expelled”.
Famine, Pestilence, Locust, Violence:
Over 7 Million in East Africa on brink of starvation amid pandemic, violence and infestation
April 11, 2020
Over 7 million people across six East African countries are at the cusp of starvation as communities have faced existential threats from violence, flooding, the pandemic and locust infestation, the evangelical humanitarian organization World Vision has warned.
According to the charity, which operates in nearly 100 countries, thousands of children could face death or long-term health consequences if the international community does not respond quickly to East Africa's worsening crisis.
Debebe Dawit, program manager for World Vision’s humanitarian emergency affairs team, recently visited Ethiopia and saw firsthand the effects of poverty in the East African country. He said the situation is “severe.”
“The situation is very severe in East Africa, and particularly Ethiopia. Over 2 million people are in need of food assistance,” Dawit told The Christian Post in a Thursday interview. “Among conflict, COVID-19, flooding, locust infestation, all these are adding an additional burden to the community.”

UN agencies call for urgent action to avert famine risk in 20 ‘hunger hotspots’
April 1, 2021
Famine is already on the doorstep of millions of families in 20 countries, two UN agencies warned on Tuesday in a report that calls for urgent action to avert rising hunger due to factors such as conflict, climate extremes and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The partners said more than 34 million people worldwide are already facing emergency levels of acute hunger, meaning they are just a step away from starvation.
“The magnitude of suffering is alarming. It is incumbent upon all of us to act now and to act fast to save lives, safeguard livelihoods and prevent the worst situation”, said FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu.
“We are seeing a catastrophe unfold before our very eyes. Famine – driven by conflict, and fuelled by climate shocks and the COVID-19 hunger pandemic – is knocking on the door for millions of families.”

Middle East Quartet discusses return to 'meaningful negotiations'
March 24, 2021
The international Middle East Quartet made up of the European Union, the Russian Federation, the United States, and the United Nations discussed on Tuesday a "return to meaningful negotiations" for a solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict. A copy of the Quartet's statement was sent to MEMO.
"The discussion," he added, "included tangible steps to advance freedom, security, and prosperity for Palestinians and Israelis, which is important in its own right."
In it, the group's Strategic Communications and Public Information Officer, Murad Bakri, said that envoys of the four members had an online meeting to discuss such a return with the aim of reaching a two-state solution.
It is shaping up as the prophecies dictate:
Pope Francis Calls For ‘New World Order’ For Post-Pandemic World
Pope Francis reportedly called for a 'new world order' for a post pandemic world in a book set to come out on Tuesday in Rome.
The head of the Catholic Church insists for the establishment of a new world order after the pandemic because things will never be the same after it. Breitbart tagged the Pope's call for the new world order as the Great Reset except that the pontiff's moves away from the culture of inclusiveness that works towards the building of a green economy with focus on financial speculation, fossil fuels, and military build-up.
Asked what urgencies he perceives because of the pandemic, the Pope remarked that inequalities and disruptions to the environment can no longer be "blithely" accepted because the "path to humanity's salvation" is focused on their "coexistence among peoples in harmony with Creation." He stressed that everything is interconnected and is likewise affected by the action of one person.
"By changing the lifestyles that drive millions of people, especially children, into the grip of hunger, we will be able to lead a more austere existence that would make a fair distribution of resources possible," the Pope said.
He pointed out that the pandemic is a wake up call for everyone to "remove social injustice and marginalization" by taking the trial that is the pandemic "as an opportunity" to "prepare for tomorrow under the banner of human fraternity" because there is no future for anyone without "an overall vision."

More Americans than ever identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ) according to a survey of sexuality, with one in six people under 23 saying they are something other than heterosexual.
The Gallup Poll released Wednesday, found that 5.6 percent of Americans classify themselves as LGBTQ – up from 4.5 percent in 2017.
Gallup surveyed 15,000 Americans above 18 years of age and found that of those who identified themselves as LGBTQ, 54.6 percent said they were bisexual, 24.5 percent said they were gay, and 11.7 percent said they were lesbians. Another 11.3 percent identified themselves as transgender while 3.3 percent said they preferred to use another term such as ‘queer’ or ‘same-gender loving’ to describe their sexual identity.
The pronounced generational differences raise questions about whether higher LGBTQ identification in younger than older Americans reflects a true shift in sexual orientation, or if it merely reflects a greater willingness of younger people to identify as LGBTQ,” Gallup said.
“To the extent it reflects older Americans not wanting to acknowledge an LGBTQ orientation, the Gallup estimates may underestimate the actual population prevalence of it.”

'Praying that God Protects Us': Killing Continues as Witnesses Recall Massacre of 800 at Church in Ethiopia
Bodies with gunshot wounds lay in the streets for days in Ethiopia’s holiest city. At night, residents listened in horror as hyenas fed on the corpses of people they knew. But they were forbidden from burying their dead by the invading Eritrean soldiers.
Those memories haunt a deacon at the country’s most sacred Ethiopian Orthodox church in Axum, where local faithful believe the ancient Ark of the Covenant is housed. The deacon, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he remains in Axum, said he helped count the bodies - or what was left after hyenas fed. He gathered victims’ identity cards and assisted with burials in mass graves.
He believes some 800 people were killed that weekend at the church and around the city, and that thousands in Axum have died. He recalled soldiers bursting into the church, cornering and dragging out worshippers and shooting at those who fled.
“I escaped by chance with a priest,” he said. “As we entered the street, we could hear gunfire all over.” They kept running, stumbling over the dead and wounded along with others trying to find places to hide.
BIDEN PREPARES TO SPEAK WITH IRAN AS ISRAEL READIES FOR WAR
February 20, 2021
Netanyahu has made it clear that folding on key elements of inspections or even sanctions relief at this stage would be unacceptable to Israel and its Arab partners. More than that, as Biden’s team looks to find ways to revive Obama’s Iran nuclear deal, the region continues to heat up.
Hezbollah continues to threaten Israel, and in turn Israeli leaders have warned Hezbollah no to try anything. Israel has also increased attacks against Iranian targets in Syria.
Biden’s attempt at rapprochement with Tehran is a gamble. With little hope of succeeding, a failed attempt could plunge the entire region into war. WATCH VIDEO:

A general in Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps made the provocative statement less than a week into Joe Biden's presidency
An Iranian commander has said that the Islamic Republic has the ability to sink US warships. The comments indicate a continuation of hostile rhetoric toward the United States now that Joe Biden is president.
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Gen. Rahim Noei-Aghdam said the military has the capability to destroy US Navy ships that are close to Iranian territory.
“If once the US presence in the international waters near Iran was considered as a threat to the country, today thanks to our deterrent power and surface-to-surface, surface-to-air, surface-to-coast, coast-to-coast, coast-to-sea and sea-to-sea missiles, we have the ability to destroy American ships,”

Photos Reveal Damage from Deadly Rocket Attack at US Base in Iraq
Monday night's attack caught U.S. personnel in their bunks and destroyed contractor living facilities.
February 16, 2021
The rockets that struck U.S. forces at a base in Erbil on Monday night destroyed a contractor living facility, killing one — U.S.-employed but not a citizen — and wounding four others, some American.
"You can see the mangle of bunks inside. Contractors here are shook up and sad," said Katie Bo Williams, posting on Twitter several photos of the damaged facilities.
Fourteen rockets fell on the capital of the Kurdish Regional Government in northern Iraq, in a rare attack on the usually tranquil city claimed by an Iranian-supported militia group called Saraya Awliya al-Dam.
A group called Saraya Awliya al-Dam took immediate responsibility, and claimed to have fired 24 rockets in the attack. The group is widely seen as a front for Iran-linked militia in Iraq, in particular Kataib Hezbollah, the group that killed multiple Americans in two attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq in 2019 and 2020
“Iran considers Iraq’s stability and security as a key issue for the region... and rejects any action that disturbs the peace and order in that country,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh reportedly said via state-run media .
IRAN MOVES FAST TOWARDS A NUCLEAR WEAPON
February 13, 2021
With all of the chaos gripping Israel concerning Covid-19 and the upcoming Israeli elections, it is once again Iran’s march to a nuclear weapon that is most daunting.
The Ayatollahs in Tehran are not wasting anytime now that the Biden administration appears to be a bad copy of the Obama years. Iran is refusing to sit down and negotiate and sees the finish line just ahead of it for the nuclear bomb.
While there is some discrepancy on timing, most observers and experts believe it will take the Iranian regime anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to reach breakout. Watch Video:

Iran Threatens to Take Out Tel Aviv if Israel Follows Through With New Military Plans
Israeli Lieutenant-General Aviv Kochavi, chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces said this analysis had caused him to draw up new plans against Iran, which he accused of operating through allied militias across the Middle East, including Lebanon and Syria, where Israel was already active in a campaign of air raids.
"In view of this fundamental analysis, I ordered the Israel Defense Forces to prepare a number of operational plans, in addition to what we have already, and we will develop them over the next year," Kohavi said. "It will be the government, of course, who decides on implementing them, but these plans have to be ready, they have to be on the table and they have to be documented."
These remarks resounded in Tehran, where Iranian Armed Forces spokesperson Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi dismissed them as "psychological warfare." He issued a stark warning in response.
"If even the slightest mistake is made, we will level Haifa and Tel Aviv in the shortest possible time," Shekarchi said in comments carried Wednesday by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.
"I would like to emphasize that the policy I am pursuing is clear: we will not allow Iran to arm itself with nuclear weapons," the Israeli leader said. "I say this to enemies and friends alike, it is our top mission, to preserve the life of our country."
Doomsday Clock Close as Ever to Midnight in 2021 over COVID, Nukes, Climate Change
Leading experts have left the Doomsday Clock at its closest point to midnight ever in 2021, signaling a continued concern at the highest level yet toward existential threats to humanity.
Members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists unveiled this year's deliberation on the symbolic Doomsday Clock at a virtual event Wednesday. The clock was set to 100 seconds, unchanged from the 2020 finding, which marked the latest the time has ever been pushed since the clock was devised in 1947.
The threat to humanity's survival is even higher today, the group's experts found, and many found the U.S. has played a unique role in endangering the world as we know it.
Rachel Bronson, president and CEO of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, pointed to COVID-19 as a sign that the world remained woefully ill-equipped to deal with potentially apocalyptic threats.
"The hands of the Doomsday Clock remain at 100 seconds to midnight, as close to midnight as ever," Bronson said in a statement sent to Newsweek.
"The lethal and fear-inspiring COVID-19 pandemic serves as a historic 'wake-up call,' a vivid illustration that national governments and international organizations are unprepared to manage the truly civilization-ending threats of nuclear weapons and climate change."

Iran Leaders Keep Focus on Biden As Israel Threatens Military Strike Over Nuclear Deal
Iran began violating the agreement after Trump withdrew and broke with it entirely after the American assassination of Major General Qassem Soleimani last year. Tehran has since expanded its stockpile of enriched uranium and increased enrichment to 20 percent, a short technical step from 90 percent weapons-grade uraniam.
Rouhani told a cabinet meeting Wednesday the world is waiting for Biden to make his move. "The whole world—except a few countries—is calling on the United States unanimously to return to its commitments under the JCPOA," Rouhani said, according to the state-run PressTV.
Rouhani also again claimed victory over Trump's "maximum pressure" campaign of sanctions, covert action, military posturing and diplomatic pressure, dismissing the former president as a "vicious criminal."
Meanwhile, conservatives in the U.S. and American allies in the Middle East—chief among them Israel—are mobilizing against the JCPOA. IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi said Tuesday he had ordered his forces to draw up military options to deal with the threat from Iran.
"Iran can decide that it wants to advance to a bomb, either covertly or in a provocative way. In light of this basic analysis, I have ordered the IDF to prepare a number of operational plans, in addition to the existing ones. We are studying these plans and we will develop them over the next year," Kohavi said.

Prepare for Persecution: Domestic Terror Law, Big Tech, and Big Media May Target Christians
Dreher describes what may be coming to America as "soft totalitarianism."
"It's not going to have gulags, secret police – the thing the Soviets had. Rather, this is something that is going to be done mostly by Big Tech limiting access to the economy, keeping it so only those who conform with what the regime wants can participate in the economy," explained Dreher.
Social media speech censorship and Amazon's recent shutdown of servers for the popular conservative website Parler could provide a clue as to what may lie ahead.
"It's going to come from big business and Big Tech who will be using their freedom in our free-market society to marginalize and oppress 'deplorables,' which includes political conservatives and religious conservatives," Dreher insisted.
"We're going to see people designated as terrorists – people who have no interest in terrorism at all who do not support violence, but who simply question the way things are done in this country and they do so from the right," predicted Dreher. "I believe that Christians – conservative Christians – are going to be targeted too and there will be no discrimination between us peaceful conservative Christians and those who want violence."

Earthquake death toll at 73 as Indonesia struggles with string of disasters
Police and military officers have been deployed to crack down on looting in several parts of the region
January 17, 2021
At least 73 people have been killed after an earthquake struck Indonesia's West Sulawesi province on Friday, the disaster mitigation agency (BNPB) said on Sunday, the latest in a string of disasters to hit the Southeast Asian country.
More than 820 people were injured and over 27,800 left their homes after the 6.2 magnitude quake, BNPB spokesman said. Some sought refuge in the mountains, while others went to cramped evacuation centers, witnesses said.
Straddling the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia is regularly hit by earthquakes. In 2018, a devastating 6.2-magnitude quake and subsequent tsunami struck the city of Palu, in Sulawesi, killing thousands.
Just two weeks into the new year, the world's fourth-most populous country is battling several disasters. Floods in North Sulawesi and South Kalimantan province each have killed at least five this month, while landslides in West Java province have killed at least 29, authorities said.
Retired Lebanese general says 65,000 US troops at 54 military bases are under daily threat from Iranian strikes
JAN 17, 2021
Dozens of American bases located in various parts of the Middle East are at the forefront of the Iranian military and could be attacked. Retired Lebanese General Amin Mohamed Hoteit expressed this opinion in an interview with the Tasnim news agency. According to the general, 65,000 US troops stationed at 54 military bases are under daily threat from Iranian strikes.
Hoteit said. “Tehran has military capabilities and potential that could successfully use to accurately defeat any American target, despite the” excellent “American air defense systems,” the Lebanese brigadier general concluded.
The fact that Iran has managed to strike a base of this size (Ayn al-Assad – ed.) only shows that the Islamic Republic has its operational capabilities to carry out other similar attacks against other military bases,

France’s Foreign Minister Jean Yves Le Drian on Saturday said that Iran was in the process of acquiring a nuclear weapons capacity with its breaches of the 2015 nuclear agreement.
Speaking to the Journal du Dimanche newspaper, Le Drain accused the outgoing United States leadership of exacerbating the crisis with Iran and pushing Tehran to advance its nuclear program.
“This has to stop because Iran and – I say this clearly – is in the process of acquiring nuclear [weapons] capacity,” he warned.
“Tough discussions will be needed over ballistic proliferation and Iran’s destabilization of its neighbors in the region,” Le Drian said.
IRAN DEPLOYS SUICIDE DRONES IN YEMEN, IN RANGE OF ISRAEL
January 16, 2021
Tensions in the Middle East keep rising ahead of Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20th. After Israel hit deep into Syrian territory last Tuesday night, it is now Iran’s move in this high stakes game of chess.
To show Israel that it is not messing around and letting attacks on its bases in Syria to go unanswered, the regime in Tehran has decided to hand the Houthis in Yemen suicide drones.

IDF PREPARES FIRST STRIKE OPTIONS AGAINST IRAN
January 15, 2021
With the Biden administration taking over in a matter of days and its clear insistence that it do everything in its power to reenter the nuclear deal, sources in the IDF and the government claim that the IDF is preparing multiple options to deal with this development.
Given Israel’s new alliance with the Gulf Sunni states, its strategic depth has expanded. To hit Iran it simply has to fly North from the new joint UAE-Israel base near the Emirates. Without the need for refueling or even permission from the USA to fly over Iraq, a preemptive strike becomes far more feasible.
ISRAEL SMACKS IRAN IN HEAVY BOMBARDMENT NEAR IRAQ
January 14, 2021
With what has become a major news story, the Israeli air bombardment on Iranian forces near Iraq has completely set back Iranian arms smuggling into Syria.
The AP is reporting that the intel for the strike came directly from the USA. Still, to launch an attack from Israel all the way to the Euphrates is not only amazing, but a dramatic escalation and message to the Iranians. With the incoming Biden administration replete with sinophiles, the Israeli government wanted to set back Iranian expansion in the region before inauguration day.
With the region on edge and Trump seemingly leaving office on January 20th, Israel may have to keep pounding away at Iranian position along the Syrian border with Iraq and if possible in Iraq itself in order to set back the Mullah’s advance enough that Jerusalem can weather the Biden administration’s plans for rapprochement with the Mahdi regime in Tehran. “Extremists are emboldened by government weakened by COVID-19 restrictions, knowing that they can steal food and medical supplies from already embattled Christian communities around the world,” he said.
Violence by Islamists in Nigeria amounts to genocide, Curry said. Attacks have spilled over into neighboring countries. Across Africa, even countries with sizeable Christian majorities like Mozambique and Burkina Faso have suffered from Islamic persecution. It only takes a few extremists to commit violence against Christians.
Other persecution hotspots around the globe include China and India, Open Doors announced. In China, the Communist Party has cracked down on Christians by using surveillance technology. In the last year, it has integrated its social credit and video security system, enabling it to track its people and punish them for attending church.
In India, the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party has encouraged persecution of Christians by sanctioning Hindu extremism, Open Doors research found. The party has told its nation that only Hindus are truly Indian, Curry told The Christian Post. Political leaders have discouraged police from responding to attacks on Christians.

"You now have the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as the home base for Al Qaeda," Pompeo said in a speech at the National Press Club. "They are partners in terrorism, partners in hate."
"Iran decided to allow Al Qaeda to establish a new operational headquarters, on the condition that Al Qaeda operatives inside abide by the regime’s rules governing Al Qaeda’s stay inside the country," he said.
He said such an arrangement provides a terror threat in the region and elsewhere and could threaten the Abraham Accords – peace agreements between Israel and nearby Arab countries – by allowing Al Qaeda to blackmail them.
He said it could allow Al Qaeda leaders to increase influence in places like Syria and Somalia, launch attacks on European countries such as France and Germany, and could see a situation where Al Qaeda carries out attacks on Iran’s orders.

"Prophet" Jeremiah Johnson gets threats after Trump prophesy apology; slams some in prophetic movement

Evangelical prophet Jeremiah Johnson said he’s now getting death threats from Christians after apologizing to his followers Thursday for “inaccurately prophesying” that President Donald Trump would win a second term.
Johnson, who also called out Christians for their idolatry of the outgoing president, revealed in a statement on Facebook Sunday that the attacks have shown him that “parts of the prophetic/charismatic movement are far SICKER than I could have ever dreamed of.”
“Over the last 72 hours, I have received multiple death threats and thousands upon thousands of emails from Christians saying the nastiest and most vulgar things I have ever heard toward my family and ministry. Iran Starts 20% Uranium Enrichment, Seizes South Korean Ship
Iran began enriching uranium Monday to levels unseen since its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers and also seized a South Korean-flagged tanker near the crucial Strait of Hormuz, a double-barreled challenge to the West that further raised Mideast tensions.
Both decisions appeared aimed at increasing Tehran’s leverage in the waning days in office for President Donald Trump, whose unilateral withdrawal from the atomic accord in 2018 began a series of escalating incidents.
Increasing enrichment at its underground Fordo facility puts Tehran a technical step away from weapons-grade levels of 90%, while also pressuring President-elect Joe Biden to quickly negotiate. Iran’s seizure of the MT Hankuk Chemi comes as a South Korean diplomat was due to travel to the Islamic Republic to discuss the release of billions of dollars in Iranian assets now frozen in Seoul.
‘Naval BOMB’ prone to ‘sudden explosion’ found on hull of Iraqi tanker as Iran warns US may use false-flag attack to start war
2 Jan, 2021
Explosives experts were called in to defuse a naval mine found attached to the hull of an oil tanker as it departed an Iraqi port, prompting an evacuation of the ship’s crew amid simmering tension in the Gulf.
Iraqi authorities confirmed the discovery on Friday morning through the semi-official Security Media Cell Twitter account, saying a “foreign body” was spotted on the vessel as it entered international waters in the Persian Gulf on Thursday afternoon, some 28 nautical miles off Iraq’s coast.
It remains unclear who was behind the apparent mining attempt, with no party taking responsibility. Washington, however, has repeatedly blamed Iran for similar incidents in the past, including a series of mine attacks on tankers stationed in and around the Persian Gulf in the summer of 2019. Tehran has emphatically denied the allegations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif claimed on Thursday that “intelligence from Iraq” suggested that the US was plotting to “fabricate a pretext for war,” around the time early reports emerged about the naval mine. The FM vowed that Iran would “openly and directly” defend its people.

The top commander of Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said Friday that his country was fully prepared to respond to any U.S. military pressure as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high in the waning days of President Donald Trump’s administration.
Soleimani’s replacement, Brig. Gen. Esmail Ghaani, said at the ceremony that Iran was not afraid of confronting "powers," again without naming the U.S. He also warned that "freedom seekers" within the U.S. could retaliate for the attack that killed Soleimani, telling America that "inside your own home, there might be those who want to respond to the crime that you committed."
"By committing a craven act of terror against Gen Soleimani, the US violated int’l law & the UN Charter in a blatant violation of Iraqi sovereignty," said a post on the ministry's Twitter account. "The US’ lawlessness in full show. #Iran won’t rest until bringing those responsible to justice."
Already, America has conducted B-52 bomber flyovers and sent a nuclear submarine into the Persian Gulf over what Trump administration officials describe as the possibility of an Iranian attack on the anniversary of Soleimani's killing.

US Warns Iran
Iran is a country that has a government who sponsors terrorism worldwide. Terrorist organizations around the world rely on Iran for funding to murder people. And under the Trump administration, the US will have none of it. No deal with a terrorist regime who can’t be trusted. Yes to sanctions to pressure them to stop building a nuclear weapon. America has shown its strength against Iran. The Trump administration has set boundaries. Iran knows that Trump doesn’t play games.
Iran wants to destroy Israel. But they do not only want to wipe the Jewish state off the map, they want to destroy America as well. The entire Western World is a threat to their ideology. America is warning Iran – back down. They are threatening them that if they try to do anything, they will be attacked. As the anniversary of the assassination of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani approaches on January 3, America is sending a message to Iran: Don’t attack. Don’t retaliate. Will Iran heed the warning? It would be very unwise to ignore the warning that the US sent.
Iran Vows Soleimani Revenge As First Anniversary of Assassination Looms
January 1, 2021
Iran is preparing to mark the anniversary as regime leaders continue to vow revenge against the U.S. Iranian forces responded to the strike in January with ballistic missile attacks on Iraqi military bases housing American troops, wounding more than 100. But Iranian officials have promised more retaliation.
Iraq has been the main battleground for the U.S.-Iranian conflict. Tehran-aligned militias have regularly targeted American interests there, and since November have resumed rocket attacks on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad and IED attacks on American convoys elsewhere.
This prompted Trump's warning of retaliation if any Americans are killed. The president posted photos of unfired rockets from the most recent attack on the U.S. embassy, warning: "Now we hear chatter of additional attacks against Americans in Iraq. Some friendly health advice to Iran: If one American is killed, I will hold Iran responsible. Think it over."
Iran has long held sway in war-torn Iraq, expanding its influence massively during the disastrous American occupation of the country and the sectarian civil war that followed. Masjedi claimed Iran does not want Iraq to be dragged into its conflict with the U.S., but Iranian and allied activities tell a different story. Pressure on the U.S. embassy has prompted the State Department to draw staffing levels there down amid security concerns.
